Two arraigned for biting off man's ear

An Upper Area Court sitting in Gwagwalada on Wednesday remanded two persons, Faith Chinweife, 21, and Kelechi Ojobo, 22, in prison for allegedly biting off a man's ear.

Chinweife and Ojobo, sales girl and boy respectively at Channel 5 Beer Parlour, Kuje Road, Chukwuku, in the FCT, were arraigned on a two-count charge of joint act and causing grievous hurt.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Modupe Musa, told the court that the accused jointly beat up one Dennis Manger, their customer of same address, on April 8.

Musa said during the fight, Faith bit off the complainant's right ear, thereby inflicting serious injury on him.

The prosecutor said Manger could no longer hear well with the ear.

The prosecutor prayed the court for an adjournment to enable her to call witnesses.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Their counsel, Mr Edo Okayan, urged the court to grant them bail.

Okayan said there was no medical report to show that the complainant could no longer hear with the ear.

The judge, Mr Babanginda Hassan, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to June 5 for hearing.
