Neuer warns Chelsea: Bayern have something to clear with you
For Chelsea, the outcome of the 2012 Champions League final represented their pinnacle achievement in the sport, vindicating the Roman Abramovich era and securing the major tournament that had eluded them since the Russian business tycoon bought the Stamford Bridge club in 2003.
The manner in which they prevailed, though, hurt their opponents; Bayern Munich. Chelsea came-from-behind to win (Didier Drogba's 88th minute goal cancelled out Thomas Mueller's 83rd minute opener), they secured the victory via a penalty shoot-out and, perhaps what was worst of all, they won it in their opponent's home city — Munich — inside their own stadium, the Allianz Arena.
This is not lost on the Bayern players who will face Jose Mourinho's Blues on Friday, August 30 in the 2013 Super Cup.
'It's a unique chance for us players to win this trophy,' Neuer told the official website of UEFA.
He added: 'It's a final, and a match against the Europa League winners, and that's Chelsea. We still have something to clear with them, and take revenge, so hopefully we can win.
"[Winning the UEFA Champions League] was very important. We would have had a very difficult time if we hadn't done it. Last season we were very motivated, we wanted to finally achieve a lot of success and managed to win the treble, but we could have never lost the final against Dortmund.'
The Super Cup, that pits last season's Europa League champions against the Champions League winners, will be played at the Eden Arena in Prague, Czech Republic.
