Who does Arsene Wenger use out wide against Sunderland?

Arsene Wenger faces a selection dilemma ahead of an important game away against Sunderland.

The international break wasn't kind to Arsenal with Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky picking up knocks which may restrict them from appearing in the Premier League clash away at Sunderland.

With Lukas Podolski already out of action with a hamstring problem, it leads to the obvious question of who Arsene Wenger is going to use out wide ahead of this difficult match.

Arsenal have plenty of talented central midfield players so the most likely decision Wenger will make will be one of two choices. He will either ask players to play out of position or he will set his side up to have a very narrow look.

If it's the first option then he's lucky to have someone like Aaron Ramsey in the squad, a very versatile player and a midfielder who has made a fantastic start to the season.

Ramsey continued his good form with Wales during the international break and he should be happy to play anywhere for the club if it means he continues to wrack up games for the Gunners.

Another option could be to ask Santi Cazorla to hog a wide position, which could be likely considering his stint there recently, even though he is not a natural winger.

Cazorla is one of the best at the Gunners when it comes to retaining possession and distribution so he does have the core skills to play a wider position and he will create natural space for the full back to overlap when he moves inside.

If Wenger decides he wants to play narrower, it more than likely means a midfield trio of Mesut Ozil, Mathieu Flamini and Aaron Ramsey controlling the centre of the pitch.

It's then a case of finding two players to play just behind and either side of Olivier Giroud with the width being provided by the full backs when they get forward and attack.

Jack Wilshere could be used in a more attacking role which would play to the superb qualities he has as an attacking midfielder bursting forward through the heart of the opposition.

If Wenger then wants to switch things again, Cazorla can drop off to take a normal midfield position while Sanogo could roam that gap between the midfield and the attack, almost becoming a free player.

It may transpire that Walcott recovers from an ankle problem before the match and if he's fit to play some part in the game that makes life a lot easier for Wenger.

He played for 20 minutes on the ankle knock last night before England boss Roy Hodgson finally took him off so there's a good chance he should at least make the subs bench this weekend.

However, that doesn't solve the problem of how Wenger is going to set his team up with potentially none of his first choice wide men available.
