Should Arsenal beat Chelsea in their Capital One Cup fourth round clash, it will be a record 11th consecutive quarter-final place for the Gunners in the competition.

That would be more than double the number of successive last eight places secured by any other club in League Cup history, but while it demonstrates remarkable consistency, it also highlights a problem at the Emirates.

To reach the latter stages so regularly without actually winning the trophy is symptomatic of Arsenal in recent times.

For far too long Arsene Wenger's team have flirted with success, only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

In the League Cup, the Frenchman has often been reluctant to call on his big guns in the latter stages, potentially throwing away the chance of claiming some much needed silverware.

With the Gunners' season starting so promisingly, it's vital they keep the momentum going if they want to get over the hump that an eight-year trophy drought has become.

While the Capital One Cup may not be top of Arsenal's priorities this season, victory over Jose Mourinho's Blues would land a blow on their title rivals and give Wenger a first ever win against the Portuguese manager.

Going all the way to a win at Wembley would also guarantee that neither David Moyes nor Manuel Pellegrini are able to kickstart their Manchester reigns with success.

But most of all, success often breeds success and it would show Arsenal really are winners again.
