Key Barcelona stars cry out for goalkeeper to make Nou Camp move

Two of Barcelona's main stars have called for the club to move for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Reina is currently on loan at Napoli and the presence of Simon Mignolet means that even though he's due to return to Anfield at the end of the season, he won't be playing football for the club next season.

Reina's relationship with Brendan Rodgers and the Premier League side has become strained and two of Barcelona's main players, Sergio Busquets and Cesc Fabregas, have encouraged their club to go after the Spanish shot stopper.

"It'd be great if Reina joined Barcelona, he'd be a fantastic signing. I don't see Casillas coming!" Busquets told Spanish newspaper Marca.

Reina has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona in the past with his Spanish roots suggesting an obvious path back to his home country with Victor Valdes due to move on from the Nou Camp at the end of the season.

Valdes recently urged Barcelona fans to stop trying to get him to go back on his decision not to sign a new deal with the club, beyond the current season. That's sparked mass speculation as to who would replace him with several top goalkeepers from around Europe being linked with a move.

"One of the things that Pepe can bring is that he knows all of us. He provides for a very good atmosphere in the dressing room and is experienced," Fabregas said on Radio Catalunya.

The comments will come as welcome relief to Chelsea fans who have seen reports of the recent past suggest Barcelona were going to take another look at the option of signing Belgian youngster Thibaut Courtois.

However, with Courtois tied down to Chelsea and Jose Mourinho unwilling to let him leave, the option of going after an experienced goalkeeper in the form of Reina becomes preferable, especially as he will be available in the summer upon his return to Liverpool.

It would be pointless for Liverpool to try and keep Reina because he would not be at all happy sitting on the bench, playing second fiddle to Mignolet when there is a clear opportunity for him to move back to Spain.

He's a goalkeeper that likes to be the undoubted number one at a big side and it's a no brainer for Barcelona if the club doesn't manage to get Valdes to perform that u-turn.
