Exclusive: "Arsenal will sign another striker in January" - Winterburn

Nigel Winterburn believes Arsene Wenger will sign another striker in the January transfer window - because the Frenchman realises he got it wrong in the summer.

Arsenal failed to breech Man United's defence during the 1-0 defeat to the Red Devils on Sunday, and had to call on Nicklas Bendtner, who was linked with a move away from the club in August, as Arsenal searched desperately for an equaliser.  

The north London side tried to agree a loan deal with Chelsea for Demba Ba on transfer deadline day this summer, but failed to get a move for the striker across the line.

And former Highbury favourite Winterburn claims the Frenchman will make amends for his error in the New Year.

"We know Arsenal tried to get Demba Ba before they signed Mesut Ozil," he told Drive Time. "Arsene Wenger must have realised he needed another forward.

"When you look at it in the cold light of day – they got caught out. Maybe they felt they could bring in a forward and it didn't work for them.

"When you look at it now, Olivier Giroud has to stay fit until January. I can't see any way that they won't sign somebody else, whether that's on loan or permanently, in January. Arsene Wenger will have to do that."
