Ban on Okada operators has come to stay in Niger -Governor Aliyu
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Danladi Ndayebo, restated the resolve of the state government to enforce the state's traffic law with effect from Jan. 2, 2014.
The statement, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, in Minna, said that adequate arrangements had been made to cushion the effect of the ban.
It, however, said that the state government had procured 1000 units of tricycles popularly known as "KEKEN TALBA", 8 units of 18-seater buses and 12 units of 100 capacity buses to ease the problem of transportation in the state.
The statement said that the ban was necessary in order to reduce the spate of road crashes involving the commercial motorcyclists in the last few years in the state.
According to the statement, about 1, 000 units of tricycles are also currently being distributed to Okada operators through the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Operators Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN).
