Kano is the base of the Kannywood movie industry. The Kano State Censorship Board on Thursday in Kano warned the members of the public against engaging in film piracy.
The Director General of the board, Ahmed Beli, gave the warning in a statement signed by the board's Public Relations Officer, Balarabe Tela.
The statement said that the board would not fold its arms and watch people's works being pirated.
It said it would take necessary actions to ensure that copyright owners enjoyed the fruits of their labour.
"We want to inform the public that those that want to engage in any business related to film must register with the appropriate agencies to make their business legal", the board said.
The board restated the commitment of the Kano State government to support the film industry in the state.
The unauthorised downloading of movies using such devices as the cell phones and computers is now popular in Kano State. Kano is the major base of the Hausa movie industry, popularly known as Kannywood.
