The National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) today declared that not even President Goodluck Jonathan can ask him to resign from his position unless there is a national convention. This strong position was relayed through a statement signed by the national chairman himself. In a three paraghraph statement titled, "Convention, Not Jonathan Can Remove Me", Mr Tukur said his "appointment was through a properly convened convention and nothing less is expected". The statement said "I am an elected national chairman, I have my certificate of return" adding that "I cannot resign. The convention brought me, so it has to take the convention that brought me for me to resign" insisting that "not even the president can ask me to resign". Meanwhile, 9 out of 12 members of the party's National Working Committee didn't show up for the emergency meeting called by the national chairman of the party today. The boycott, some feel is targeted to show their disaffection at Mr Tukur's leadership.
But one of the members of the NWC told Channels Television on telephone that the reasons behind the boycott is being tackled and will be resolved soon.
