Katsina youths
Olaide Oyelude, Katsina
YOUTHS in Katsina State on Sunday asked the state government to evolve programmes that would ameliorate their sufferings and allow them to actively participate in the issues concerning the state.
The youths, who belong to the Katsina State Youth Senate, held an inaugural parliamentary session in Katsina, the state capital, where they nominated ‘senators’ from various youths organisations in the state to sponsor motions on the issues concerning youths.
They also offered suggestions on how government should tackle such issues.
Among the youth organisations whose representatives were at the event were Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation, Blind Children Intellectual Club, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Arewa Youths Development, Muryar Talakwa, and the Movement for the Restoration of Northern Dignity.
The youths deliberated on motions such as the high cost of living in the state, women and contemporary democracy in Nigeria and the roles of civil society in democracy.
