34 oil thieves convicted

THE Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps on Friday said it secured 34 convictions recently in its fight against oil theft and pipeline vandalism in Rivers State.
NSCDC also appealed to communities in the state to support efforts at tackling oil theft and other criminal activities.
The Rivers State command of NSCDC disclosed this in Emohua clan, Emohua Local Government Area during an anti-oil theft and pipeline vandalism campaign in the area.
The commandant of the state NSCDC, Mr. Helen Amakiri, said the command convicted 34 persons it arrested in connection with the crime.
Amakiri stated that over 150 person were still waiting trial over illegal oil bunkering and other related issues.
The commandant noted that the essence of the campaign was to warn youths and communities to desist from all forms of illegal activities on petroleum products.
Responding, the Paramount Ruler of Emohua Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Eze Vincent Okor, (Nyewe-Eli Emohua), promised to work with the NSCDC to tackle the menace of oil theft in the area.
