Niger LGAs to spend N46.2bn on projects, others
The Niger State government has proposed N46.2bn for the 25 local government councils for the 2016 fiscal year.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Kabir Abbas Musa, disclosed this during a meeting with newsmen at the Government House in Minna, the capital, on Friday.
The proposed figure for grassroots administration will be presented to the Niger State House of Assembly as Local Government Appropriation Bill.
Musa said the budget proposal including the statutory allocation of five per cent, which amounts to N2.3bn, had been allocated for the Emirate Councils.
In a related development, the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mohammed Nda, emphasised that all projects to be carried out by all Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state must pass through the Planning Commission in order to ensure accountability and transparency in the system.
He also explained that the policy was in place to enable government to effectively trace the progress of work and to avoid past experience of not being able to link a particular project to a ministry.
