NOC/SPAN set for Olympic Day celebration
Over 21 states have indicated interest to be part of the 2016 Olympic Day celebration holding on July 2 across the country. This detail was given by the president of Sports for All Nigeria, Prince Henry Amike.
These states are Abia, Adamawa, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Delta, Edo, Ebonyi, Gombe, Imo, Kebbi, and Kaduna states. There are also Katsina, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba and the Federal Capital Territory.
Amike said in Abuja during the media unveiling of the event that the number could increase before the July 2nd date.
He explained that the Nigerian leg of this year’s Olympic Day celebration was originally fixed for June 25 but had to be shifted due to the nationwide environmental sanitation exercise. The educational aspect of the celebration would however hold on Thursday and Friday June 23 and 24. The events for the celebration are walking, jogging, aerobics and other physical exercise and which have been broken into three stages of 3km, 6km and 10km to enable everybody to participate.
President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Alhaji Habu Gumel, while emphasising on the importance of the celebration, urged Nigerians not to joke with the physical exercise which he said promotes healthy living and good lifestyle.
