Oyo owes us six months salaries, LAUTECH resident doctors

Bukola Adebayo

Resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have called on the state government to pay their six months salaries.

The President, Association of Resident Doctors at the hospital, Dr. Sebastian Owoih, who spoke to our correspondent, on Sunday, lamented that they were having challenges paying for their daily expenses.

Owoih, who said their counterparts in Osun State were receiving their salaries, noted that several meetings with the LAUTECH management to resolve the salary issue had yielded no result.

According to Owoih, both the Oyo and the Osun governments fund the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.

Owoih said, “The welfare of our members (resident doctors and house officers) that are running the hospitals does not seem important to the Oyo State Government. The last salary that we received was in November 2015.

“The resident doctors in Osun branch of the teaching hospital are being paid their salaries and nobody seems to tell us why ours are being withheld.

“We appeal to well-meaning citizens of Oyo State, policy makers, legislators and traditional rulers to wade into this issue to ensure our patients are not denied care.

“We equally appeal to the governor of Oyo State to use his fatherly disposition to look into the matters in furtherance to the previously stated appeals in our letter to him.”
