Pay your counterpart fund, IFAD tells Niger State

The mission team task leader, Value Chain Development Programme under the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Dr. Sam Eremie, on Friday urged the Niger State Government to pay the N87m counterpart fund to ensure the success of the programme.
Eremie disclosed this in Minna, the capital, when his team visited the state’s ministry of agriculture. He said that the state government has contributed N20m in the last two years.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi, noted that before the coming of the current regime, payment of counterpart fund for the programme was not encouraging.
Abdullahi said, “We have vowed that in spite of paucity of funds, we are going to pay our own N87m for 2016 and approval has been given.”
“What we are waiting for now is the cash backing to ensure that the money is released towards the success of the programme in the state. As soon as we get revenue accruing to government, we will release the money,” he said.
He commended the programme in the state and said that it was a huge success because farmers were already benefiting from it.
