Ramadan: Kano donates food to Muslims

Ted Odogwu, Kano

The Kano State Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, on Monday started the distribution of food to Muslims observing the Ramadan fast.

The distribution of the food items was done at various designated centres spread across the 44 local government areas of the state.

During the ceremony held at the premises of the Kano State Government Printing Press,  Garba said following the importance attached to the feeding of the less privileged in the society during the month of Ramadan, the government has constituted a committee, which will coordinate and supervise the one-month-long exercise, so as to achieve the set objective.

Despite the economic downturn, the commissioner disclosed that the state government had remained committed towards assisting the underprivileged through the gesture.

To ensure that the food is hygienically prepared and distributed, Garba disclosed that health and sanitary workers had been co-opted onto a committee led by the Sarkin Tsaftar Kano, Alhaji Ja’afar Gwarzo.

The food items to be distributed at the designated centres on a daily basis, according to the commissioner are 10 bags of rice, two bags of beans, two bags of millet, three bags of flour, three bags of sugar, five jerrycans of cooking oil, among others.

Also to be distributed daily at the Centre for the first 10 days are 2,000 food packs, 2,500 polyethylene bags, four cartons of  millet drink, provision of  money for the conveyance of the food items to the respective centres.
