Championship round-up: Victory sees QPR join top with Leicester after Foxes drop points

A victorious Queens Park Rangers have gone level at the top of the Championship after joint leaders Leicester City dropped points in a 2-1 defeat to managerless Sheffield Wednesday.

Goals from Charlie Austin - his fifth goal in five games for Harry Redknapp's side - Junior Hoilett and Matt Phillips sealed a comfortable win over the Cherries at Loftus Road, as the Londoners bounced back superbly from their disappointing defeat to Doncaster at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Leicester surrendered their three-point lead at the league summit following a below par performance at Hillsborough, as Wednesday claimed their second win of the season thanks to on-loan Sunderland striker Connor Wickham's brace.

The England Under-21s star netted twice to earn the Owls all three points after falling behind to Anthony Knockaert's early strike after just three minutes.

With the Foxes defeated, Burnley had the opportunity to go top by a point with a win over Watford, but could only manage a goalless stalemate, leaving the Clarets in third, while Reading rise into the playoff places after Billy Sharp's first-half effort gave the Royals a 1-0 win against Charlton at the Madejski Stadium.

Promotion pushing Blackpool also slipped up in their pursuit of the league leaders, as three sending offs saw Paul Ince's side slump to a 1-0 loss to bottom-three outfit Yeovil Town, who remain in the relegation zone.

John Lundstram's first-half finish gave the home side the lead at Huish Park, with Blackpool having most of the game to strike back. But their chances slipped away by the passing minutes, and all hope of claiming a point was snuffed out after Kirk Broadfoot, Ricardo Fuller and Gary Mackenzie all saw red in the closing moments.

Dougie Freedman's future as Bolton boss took another blow after the Trotters were beaten 1-0 by Huddersfield at the Reebok, Oliver Norwood scoring for the Terriers, while Ipswich saw off Blackburn with a comfortable 3-1 home victory, with Jordan Rhodes' goal unable to inspire Rovers as Luke Hyam, Carlos Edwards and Frank Nouble all scored for the Tractor Boys.

Elsewhere, a long-range thunderbolt from David Cotterill rescued a point for Doncaster against Birmingham, the winger's effort ruling out Lee Novak's earlier strike, while Jacob Mellis's 50th minute goal proved to be the winner for Barnsley in a 2-1 win over Brighton, Matthew Upson pulling one back late on for the Seagulls.

And finally, on-loan Chelsea starlet Nathaniel Chalobah struck in the second-half against Millwall to claim a share of the spoils for Nottingham Forest, as the Tricky Trees played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at The Den.
