Mourinho: We have to keep fighting to maintain Premier League title chase
The Blues have risen to second place after goals from Gary Cahill, John Terry and Demba Ba saw the team come from behind to beat Southampton 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea's last Premier League crown came in the 2009–10 season under now-Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, and Mourinho has spoken of his intensions to claim another top flight title at the first time of asking since his return to east London.
And, with the Gunners' lead at the top being cut to just four points following the Blues' win, Mourinho is pleased his side are in a better position at this stage in the season compared to previous campaigns.
"Everything is to play for at the moment," said the Chelsea chief. "In the past couple of years, at this stage of the season Chelsea were already very far away from the title race, and that's not possible this season.
"You can win or lose because with six title contenders, you never know if you're going to finish first or sixth.
"We need to keep in touch with the other top teams, we need to be there fighting until the last moment."
Speaking about his team's comeback from a goal down to overcome the high-flying Saints, who drop to seventh following two straight defeats, Mourinho said: "I was very happy with the performance. Southampton like to accumulate a lot of players in the central areas, so it was very important to press high and not let them play out from the back.
"And I think Fernando Torres and Demba Ba worked brilliant in that aspect, they tracked back well. The passing of the team was also good, Juan Mata gave us a lot, his movement and pass selection was good and our defence was very solid after the opening moments.
"I'm very pleased with the team."
